Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian feels that the Nerazzurri always believed that the Champions League final was a possibility.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the 33-year-old suggested that the team always felt that they would be capable of reaching European club football’s biggest match at the end of the season.

Inter have a chance to end their season by doing something historic.

It didn’t always look like this would be on the cards.

Throughout the campaign, the Nerazzurri have had plenty of wobbles in form. Particularly in October, it seemed as though negotiating a Champions League group containing the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich would prove beyond a struggling Inter team.

However, Inter rose to the challenge. The Nerazzurri looked like a team who felt that the biggest stage was the best opportunity to make a statement.

Inter got out of the so-called “group of death” to reach the knockout rounds. Then, they have put in some of their best performances of the entire season against the likes of Porto, Benfica, and AC Milan.

Throughout it all, Inter have looked like a team who believe that if they put in their best, glory could await them.

“We’ll give our best on the pitch,” he added.

Asked if he expects how the team start the match to be decisive, Darmian replied “Absolutely yes.”

“We’re playing against a very strong team,” he continued. “We’ll have to take to the pitch with the right kind of focus right from the first minute.”

“We need to play a great match to cause City problems with all of our weapons.”
