The father of Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that the Nerazzurri boss has defied his critics this season.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, Inzaghi’s father Giancarlo gave his thoughts on how the 47-year-old has done well to finish the season on a high note despite all his doubters.

Throughout this season, Inzaghi has received more than his share of criticism.

This has perhaps been inevitable given that the Nerazzurri have had some truly awful patches of form.

A tricky start to the season put Inter well behind the eight-ball in the Serie A season. Then, in March and April, the Nerazzurri had a disastrous period in which they dropped fourteen points in five matches.

This even left Inter’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League hanging on by a thread.

However, Inzaghi never let the criticisms and doubts become a distraction. Even when the sacking rumours started to float around, the former Lazio coach stuck to his task.

Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi’s Father Has His Say

Now, Inzaghi is reaping the rewards of his patience and hard work.

In the final week of the campaign, the 47-year-old got Inter back on track in the league. The Nerazzurri finished third, comfortably securing Champions League football for next season.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri also won the Coppa Italia, beating Fiorentina in the final.

In the Champions League, Inzaghi has had perhaps his brightest moments. The coach has put all of the inconsistency and negativity behind the team by booking their place in the final of Europe’s top club competition.

The coach’s father said that “Simone has been bombarded with criticism. Yet he’s had a crazy season.”

“There are coaches over the years who only won one trophy in their life, and they’re celebrated,” Giancarlo Inzaghi continued.

“Simone has already won seven trophies, not to mention the youth team titles.”

He noted that “My wife Marina and I are awaiting the final calmly.”

“Of course, I don’t deny that that it isn’t easy to sleep at night, we’ve been thinking about it for days,” he admitted.
