Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries admits that it’s hard to say it’s been a great season all around after yesterday evening’s Champions League loss to Man City.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, via FCInterNews, the Dutchman gave his reaction to the loss.

Inter have fallen at the last hurdle in the Champions League.

The team came tantalizingly close in the biggest match in European club competition.

However, in the end they could not capitalize on any of their chances to take a better result.

It certainly didn’t come about due to any lack of effort, however. As they promised to, Inter left everything out on the pitch in a gritty, determined performance on both sides of the ball.

Now, the Nerazzurri will have to reflect on the bitterness of some missed opportunities.

This also comes after another season in which Inter have failed to win the Serie A title. And, unlike last time around, they were far away from it rather than fighting until the last day.

On the other hand, there’s the Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italiana, and the undeniable feat that is reaching the Champions League final.

Denzel Dumfries: Second Could Be Better After Man City Loss

Dumfries gave the view that “If you play for Inter, you certainly always play to win.”

“I think we can come out of it with our heads held high.”

“I’m proud of tonight’s match, but it’s a shame we didn’t win.”

“It’s a final so we gave everything until the final whistle,” the Dutchman said. “We were unlucky not to score.”

“I’m proud of how we prepared for this match, we didn’t win but we gave everything.”

Asked if he thinks it’s been a great season, Dumfries admitted that “It’s hard to say that at the moment.”

“We didn’t win the Scudetto, we lost this final.”

“We had a good season, but now it’s difficult to comment with a clear head.”
