Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries rues his team’s missed chances in the CL final, but insists that he and his teammates remain a solid block through thick and thin.
The Nerazzurri entered the Champions League final as the clear underdogs against a Marauding Manchester City side that has been on a tear this season. Yet, the Italian giants proved to be up to the task.
Simone Inzaghi’s men had several chances to break the deadlock, but they lacked a clinical touch in front of goal.
On the other hand, Rodri punished the wasteful Beneamata by snatching the winner with an unstoppable drive that landed at the back of the net.
Therefore, Dumfries laments what was a missed opportunity for Inter while revealing what Inzaghi told his players following the CL final.
“We’re feeling bad. It’s always difficult when you lose a final, especially if it ends 0-1,” said the Dutch wingback in one of his post-match interviews in the mixed zone via FcInterNews.
“Everyone has seen that we defended valiantly tonight. Unfortunately we did not materialize the chances created. We are all disappointed, but we lose and win together.
“Inzaghi told us he was proud of us and that we mustn’t be angry with one another. We have shown who were are. He was proud of how we played.
“After the game, it’s difficult to have a clear mind and see the big picture, but we must be proud. So I agree with the coach.”
“We defend as a team, we attack as a team. When we get back together, we will be hungry for glory next season.”
Regarding his future, Dumfries said he expects to stay at the club beyond the current campaign.
“Yes, at the moment I’m staying at Inter”.
