While Newcastle United are reportedly hoping to sign Nicolò Barella, Inter Milan have deemed the offer to be too low.

According to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, the Magpies have set their sights on the 26-year-old midfielder.

The English side has secured its long-awaited return to the Champions League after finishing fourth in the Premier League standings.

Therefore, Newcastle will be eager to bolster their ranks ahead of next season’s eventful campaign, but they will have to present a more lucrative offer if they hope to prise Barella away from Inter.

As the source claims, the EPL club offered a figure between 58 and 60 million. However, it remains way off the mark, as the Nerazzurri would only consider a fee in the region of 80-90 million euros.

The Beneamata signed the Italian international midfielder from Cagliari in 2019 for around 50 million euros. His current contract with the club runs until 2026.

As we all know, Barella is an instrumental member of Simone Inzaghi’s squad. Moreover, the management considers him an integral part of the club in the present and the future. He’s one of the primary candidates to inherit the captaincy in the future.

The source also notes that Newcastle could resort to their primary transfer target James Maddison if their offer fails to lure Barella away from Inter.

Leicester City would be willing to accept 58 million for the England international after suffering relegation to the Championship.
