Inter Milan received an important boost in their quest to sign Davide Frattesi with the player revealing his desire to remain in Italy.

As we reported earlier, the Nerazzurri have reached an agreement with Sassuolo over the player’s transfer. However, the club has to sell players to generate funds in order to complete the transfer.

But in the meantime, the 23-year-old insists that he wishes to remain in his home country, closing the door on Inter’s foreign competitors.

The Sassuolo midfielder spoke to the press following Italy’s 1-2 defeat at the hands of Spain in the semifinal of the UEFA Nations League.

“We have to take it step by step. At the moment, I don’t feel ready to go abroad,” he said in his post-match interview with Sky Sport via FcInterNews.

“I’d rather stay in Italy. I also told the Sassuolo director that this is my will.”

Despite the defeat, the former Monza man was one of the best performers for the Azzurri on Thursday night. He also scored a goal that was disallowed by VAR for a marginal offside.

“We needed to score. I had to be a bit more careful not to go offside. I could have done better on the second and third chances, but there will be time to improve.”

The young midfielder is looking forward to establish a new core with the national team alongside the likes of Nicolò Barella and Sandro Tonali, but admits that it takes some time.

“That must be a pleasure and a stimulus. It’s normal that it takes a little while, because if I have to compare myself with Rodri who played 100 games between the national team and the Champions League, I must admit that it takes some time.

“You need to have some patience But we’ll get there”.
