Barcelona are targeting Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic as a new holding midfielder if they’re unable to land Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.

This according to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, via FCInterNews, who report that the Blaugranas could also used former AC Milan star Franck Kessie as part of their plan to sign the 30-year-old Croatian international.

Barcelona are in search of a big name holding midfield signing.

The departure of club legend Sergio Busquets has left a big vacancy at the base of midfield. Coach Xavi has made filling that hole in the squad with a player with a similar style to Busquets a priority.

According to MD, the Balaugranas’ priority would be to bring La Real midfielder Zubimendi to the Camp Nou. The 24-year-old is also a target for the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City in the Premier League.

Barcelona have also been keen to sign Bayern Munich star Kimmich. However, it looks unlikely that the German champions would consider offers for Kimmich.

Accordingly, Barcelona are also looking at other possibilities in the position.

Barcelona Line Up Inter Milan’s Brozovic As Alternative To La Real’s Zubimendi

Foremost among the Blaugranas’ Zubimendi backup plans, MD report, is reigniting their interest in Brozovic.

The Croat is a player who Barcelona have shown interest in signing on plenty of occasions.

The La Liga champions could have their opportunity this summer. Brozovic leaving Inter is reportedly a serious possibility.

Moreover, Inter and Barcelona had discussed a prospective swap between Brozovic and former AC Milan and Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessie in January.

The 26-year-old Ivorian is a long-term target for the Nerazzurri. Moreover, he is currently out of favour at the Camp Nou, and could have just twelve months after his arrival.

Therefore, Barcelona feel that they could use Kessie to their advantage in their pursuit of Brozovic.
