Inter Milan are very close to completing a deal to sign defender Francesco Acerbi on a permanent basis from Lazio.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, who report that only the official announcements remain and then the 35-year-old’s loan move will be made into a permanent deal ahead of next season.

Inter want to bring Acerbi back next season.

The 35-year-old has established himself as a key member of Simone Inzaghi’s squad this season.

There had been a lot of negative fan reception to Acerbi’s arrival on the final day of last summer transfer window. The Biancocelesti-owned man was seen as an unambitious piece of business by the club in the eyes of many.

However, Inzaghi never had any doubts.

The coach, who had worked with Acerbi for three seasons at Lazio, believed he was the right man to reinforce Inter’s defense.

Inzaghi has certainly been vindicated in this respect.

Acerbi made short work of carving out a role in Inter’s starting eleven. Since the fall, the Lazio-owned defender has been first-choice ahead of Stefan de Vrij in the centre of the back three.

Moreover, the 35-year-old’s displays have been crucial to the Nerazzurri reaching a Champions League final.

Inter Milan All Set To Sign Francesco Acerbi Permanently From Lazio

The Nerazzurri and Acerbi have already agreed on a two-year contract. The player’s will is very much to remain at the San Siro.

Moreover, FCIN1908 reveal, Inter are also very close to agreeing a deal to buy the former Sassuolo defender from Lazio.

The Nerazzurri have a purchase option of €4 million in Acerbi’s loan deal from the Biancocelesti. FCIN1908 report that the Nerazzurri are ready to pay more or less the full amount.

Inter have received a fee of €5 million from Salernitana to sign young defender Lorenzo Pirola.

They will reinvest this in making Acerbi’s deal permanent for next season.
