Inter Milan have reportedly revived their interest in Atalanta defender Merih Demiral who might finally complete a transfer to Appiano Gentile this summer.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews , the Nerazzurri have renewed their interest in the former Juventus centre-back.

The source explains how the departures of Milan Skriniar and Danilo D’Ambrosio would leave a significant hole at the back.

The well-traveled defender has been plying his trade in Serie A since January 2019 when he joined Sassuolo.

Following a brief spell at the Mapei Stadium, he made the big jump to Juventus in the summer of 2019. But after two underwhelming years in Turin, he signed for Atalanta in 2021.

But as the report reveals, Demiral shares a poor rapport with La Dea manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

The source goes on to claim that Merih Demiral had already given his consent to a transfer to Inter Milan last January. However, the deal never materialized.

Nevertheless, the centre-back remains eager to join the Nerazzurri and will be hoping to finalize the transfer this summer.

As the report tells it, club directors Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio will be looking to present Inter coach Simone Inzaghi an almost complete squad for pre-season (kicking off on July 10).

Therefore, Inter should start negotiating with Atalanta as soon as possible in order to find a swift agreement.

Last season, Demiral made 28 appearances in Serie A for the Orobici, scoring a single goal in the process.
