In a surprising Mercato twist, Marcus Thuram has reportedly decided to join Inter Milan instead of their crosstown rivals AC Milan.

The 25-year-old is one of the most coveted names on the free market. His contract with Borussia Monchengladbach will expire at the end of the month and he’s eager to embark on a new career adventure.

But while the Rossoneri were apparently leading the race for his signature, the Frenchman could land on the other side of the city.

According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna (via FcInterNews), Marcus Thuram has decided to accept the offer from Inter Milan.

Aside from the French source, La Gazzetta dello Sport has also confirmed the news. The pink newspaper also expects the Nerazzurri to complete the signing of the 25-year-old.

Inter Milan Will Pip AC Milan In The Race For Marcus Thuram

This would be a major blow for the Rossoneri who thought they had the French international wrapped up.

The Milano-based newspaper claims that only the signature is missing for Thuram who would replace Edin Dzeko at Appiano Gentile. The Bosnian veteran has completed a switch to Fenerbahce this week.

While his father Lilian was one of the most fearsome defenders in his generation, Marcus is a versatile attacker who can play either as a striker or an outside forward.

This season, he contributed with 16 goals and seven goals across all competitions with Monchengladbach.
