Inter Milan have lined up current Atletico Madrid and former Juventus and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata as an alternative to signing Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The Nerazzurri could go head-to-head with city rivals AC Milan for the 30-year-old’s signature.

Inter are already on the verge of making one big attacking signing this summer.

They should complete a deal to sign Marcus Thuram on a free transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach. The Frenchman will, for all intents and purposes, replace Edin Dzeko in the squad.

However, there is still more work to be done in attack for the Nerazzurri.

The future of Romelu Lukaku is still up in the air. Inter have been trying to negotiate another loan deal with Chelsea.

However, so far the Blues have rejected every one of the Nerazzurri’s offers to loan the Belgian as they did last season.

Chelsea want to sell Lukaku on a permanent basis. The Blues want a fee of around €40-45 million for the former Everton and Manchester United star.

Inter’s city rivals AC Milan could be ready to pay that, especially after missing out on Thuram. Meanwhile, Al-Hilal are also lurking with interest.

Inter Line Up Alvaro Morata As Romelu Lukaku Alternative

The Nerazzurri cannot consider it a foregone conclusion that they’ll be able to bring Lukaku back for another season, then.

As such, the Gazzetta reports, Inter are thinking of backup plans.

According to the newspaper, one of the Nerazzurri’s main alternative targets would be Atletico striker Morata.

The Spaniard has one season left on his deal with the Colchoneros, which expires at the end of next June. Therefore, the club from the Spanish capital would listen to offers of around €10 million.

Milan are keen on Morata. The ex-Bianconeri and Chelsea man is chief among their targets after missing out on Thuram.

However, Inter could rival them once again if they fail to bring Lukaku back.
