Saudi Pro League interest in David De Gea could prompt Man United to make an offer for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana this week.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it.

As United consider moving for Inter keeper Onana, the fate of current first-choice goalkeeper De Gea will play a crucial role.

The Red Devils will have to invest significantly in wages to extend the 32-year-old’s contract. Even if De Gea were to leave on a free transfer, United would have greater resources at their disposal to sign a replacement.

Moreover, the Premier League giants also have other transfer priorities.

United will aim to invest at least €100 million in a new centre-forward. Then, there is the Red Devils’ pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount, who will not come cheap.

Accordingly, unless De Gea leaves, there would be little chance of a move for Onana being financially feasible.

Saudi Pro League Push For De Gea Linked To Man United Move For Onana

If, on the other hand, the ex-Atletico Madrid star were to leave, things would be simpler for United.

The Red Devils would save on the Spaniard’s wages, and would be ready to pounce on his successor.

According to the Gazzetta, United coach Erik Ten Hag in fact prefers that the club part ways with De Geat.

The former Ajax boss has chosen Onana as the current Number One’s successor. The Dutch coach worked with the Cameroonian for several seasons at Ajax.

Ten Hag, the Gazzetta reports, is hoping that De Gea leaves on a free transfer. Then, the Red Devils can quickly move for Onana.

In this sense, Saudi interest in De Gea could be key. The Saudi Pro League are reportedly considering continuing their summer of lavish spending with a move for the Spaniard.

If this were to happen, a United bid for Onana would not take long.

According to the Gazzetta, United are ready to offer €40 million plus add-ons. Inter want at least €50-60 million.

All of Inter, Onana, and United won’t want the transfer saga to drag on too long in any event. According to the Gazzetta, if De Gea leave then United’s offer could come by this weekend. Early next week at the latest.
