Inter Milan are looking at other targets in defense rather than Atalanta defender Merih Demiral.

This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri have not made the 25-year-old former Juventus and Sassuolo star a major target despite the fact that he is all but certain to leave his club this summer.

One thing that looks clear is that Demiral will leave Atalanta during the summer transfer window.

The Turkish international has fallen out with La Dea coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Demiral has little place in Atalanta’s project moving forward. Therefore, the 25-year-old will look for a different club.

Inter Milan Not Too Keen On Atalanta Defender Merih Demiral

Inter are one club to have been strongly linked with a move for Demiral.

The Turk had reportedly been close to a move to the Nerazzurri during the January transfer window of last season.

That was when Milan Skriniar had made clear that he would not sign a contract extension. With Inter preparing to potentially sell the Slovakian to Paris Saint-Germain, they had lined up Demiral as a replacement.

However, Skriniar stayed put at Inter, as Demiral did at Atalanta.

With Skriniar now having inevitably departed to join PSG on a free transfer, however, the Nerazzurri are once again in search of a replacement.

Demiral has been one of the names on their radar. However, according to Mediaset, he is not the player they are most interested in moving for.

Rather, the broadcaster reports, Inter will likely move for a different target. Demiral is not the kind of profile who the Nerazzurri are aiming to sign.

Mediaset does not, however, specify which targets Inter have in mind, if not Demiral.

The ex-Biancocelesti man will, in any event, still almost certainly leave the Gewiss Arena before next season starts.
