Inter Milan will get €11 million in gross wages off of their wage bill as Romelu Lukaku will not be returning next summer.
This is highlighted by Italian football finance news outlet Calcio e Finanza, who note that the Nerazzurri had paid a total of around €19 million in total to sign the Belgian for one season, though now they will not be investing any more.
Last summer, Inter managed to bring back Lukaku from Chelsea.
It was a high-profile, improbable return considering that the Belgian had only made the switch to Stamford Bridge in a blockbuster deal the prior summer transfer window.
The Blues had paid an eye-watering €115 million fee for Lukaku. And Inter signed him back on loan just twelve months later.
It looked to be the Nerazzurri who had firmly gotten the better of that deal.
Calcio e Finanza note that Inter’s financial statement for the 2022-23 fiscal year shows that they paid €7.86 million to Chelsea as a loan fee.
Inter Milan Lose Romelu Lukaku’s Big Money Wages
Apart from paying a loan fee to Chelsea, Inter also paid Lukaku a significant amount in wages for his one season back.
The Belgian earned €8.5 million net for the campaign. This cost Inter around €11.1 million gross.
The tax benefit of the Growth Decree helped lower the total amount that the Nerazzurri had to spend on the Belgian’s wages. As did the fact that he accepted a pay cut compared to his wages at Chelsea.
However, Lukaku’s wages were still very high by Inter’s standards.
And even if the 30-year-old had accepted a further wage cut, his salary would still be a big expenditure for next season.
Accordingly, Calcio e Finanza note, Inter spent a total of right around €19 million to bring Lukaku back for season.
And they’ll save on gross wage expenditure in the region of €11 million to bring him back, plus not paying Chelsea a transfer fee.
