Inter Milan are hoping to secure the signing of Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer before the upcoming Japan summer tour.

The Nerazzurri will travel to the Far East at the end of the month for a promotional tour that also features two friendly tests. The Italians will take on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr on July 27 and Paris Saint-Germain on August 1.

However, the club must bolster the goalkeeping department before taking the flight to Japan.

Inter have already parted ways with legendary captain Samir Handanovic while André Onana is on the cusp of finalizing a transfer to Manchester United.

The Beneamata have brought back Raffaele Di Gennaro as a backup custodian. But this remains insufficient.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, Inter Milan are now in a race against time to secure the services of Yann Sommer.

As the source explains, the Nerazzurri share an excellent rapport with Bayern Munich. The talks between the clubs are in progress.

However, Inter haven’t been able to put the deal over the line just yet. That’s because the Bavarians are also looking to sign a top quality goalkeeper before they allow Sommer to leave. This could well be Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Moreover, the report adds that the 34-year-old’s release clause of 6 million euros has recently expired.

Nonetheless, this won’t be a major issue for Inter who weren’t planning on triggering this clause. Instead, the Nerazzurri are looking to secure Sommer’s services for a free closer to 4 million euros.

Inter also remain in the fray for Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin (currently valued at 30 million euros).

The Nerazzurri will attempt to lower the price for the 21-year-old Ukrainian. But in the meantime, the club’s priority remains securing the services of Sommer as soon as possible.
