Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali feels that with Inter Milan still not having located a new goalkeeper, the club’s directors could soon have to put on the gloves.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the Neroverdi executive joked that Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio will soon have to play in goal at this rate as the Nerazzurri’s attempt to finally sign a goalkeeper continues.

Inter have been trying to get a deal done to sign a goalkeeper in recent days.

Last week, the Nerazzurri wrapped up the sale of Andre Onana to Manchester United.

Captain Samir Handanovic has also left the club. This means that the Nerazzurri are currently without a starting-quality senior goalkeeper in their squad.

As such, signing one, and most likely two, keepers is a major priority for Inter this summer.

Bayern Munich’s Yann Sommer is by all accounts the priority.

However, the Bavarians have yet to give the green light to the transfer. They’re dealing with goalkeeping issues of their own thanks to an injury to captain Manuel Neuer.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri have already agreed a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk keeper Anatoliy Trubin.

However, the two clubs are still miles apart on a fee for the Ukrainian. Therefore, a transfer very much hangs in the balance.

Sassuolo CEO Jokes: At This Rate, Marotta & Ausilio Will Have To Play In Goal

The Nerazzurri’s fruitless search for a goalkeeper has become the defining theme of the past few days for the club.

And it has not gone without remark from many within the Italian football world.

For his part, Sassuolo CEO Carnevali has shared a joke about the matter. The Neroverdi executive enjoys a good friendship with Marotta in particular, and enjoyed a laugh at his friend’s expense.

“I hope they find a goalkeeper,” Carnevali said.

“Otherwise, Marotta and Ausilio will have to play in goal!” he joked.

The Neroverdi CEO added that “I think they will find him.”

“They always find a way to do things right,” he said of Inter’s directors.
