Marcus Thuram feels that his move to Inter Milan has come two years late than he had imagined that it would.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old gave his thoughts on the timing of his transfer to the Nerazzurri.

Inter have finally gotten their man – Thuram signed on a five-year deal earlier this summer.

However, it hasn’t been a brief pursuit by any means. And it did not come without its twists and turns.

Thuram had reportedly been one of the Nerazzurri’s main targets to replace Romelu Lukaku following the Belgian’s sale to Chelsea.

That had been all the way back in 2021.

And the Frenchman was not just a vague idea for Inter. The Nerazzurri were reportedly close to wrapping up a deal with Gladbach for around €25 million.

But a knee injury to the player saw Inter withdraw their interest. They moved for Lazio forward Joaquin Correa instead.

But in the end, Thuram has arrived after all.

The 2022 World Cup finalist joined Inter without a transfer fee, but with significant expectations to live up to.

Marcus Thuram To Inter Milan: Two Years In The Making

Thuram noted that he evaluated his future together with his father, ex-Parma and Juventus defender Lilian.

“We had various options on the table,” he said. “We evaluated all of them.”

“He recommended that I join Inter,” the Frenchman continued. “I had already I imagined wearing this shirt two years ago.”

“And I can say that the Inter directors have always followed me closely,” Thuram said. “Even after my injury, they were consoling me.”

“I haven’t forgotten about them.” Thuram said.

“And so it was only natural that I’ve chosen them now,” the 25-year-old explained.

“It’s incredible to be able to get the chance to start here after it had felt like fate had taken it away from me,” Thuram said.
