Inter Milan are looking to sign one of either Rafael Toloi or Merih Demiral from Atalanta to replace Milan Skriniar.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri have set their sights on the pair as they look to make one more defensive signing during the summer window.

Inter have already done plenty of business this summer. One thing that the Nerazzurri have not done, however, is secure a replacement for Skriniar.

Yann Bisseck has come in as a kind of defensive depth option. However, the German is not yet ready to be a regular starter. Bisseck, aged 22 has never having played regular football in a top five European league.

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta seemed to be on the way. But then the Spaniard decided to snub the Nerazzurri and join Atletico Madrid instead.

Therefore, Inter have been a bit back to square one. They have lined up plenty of potential candidates to be their final defensive signings for the summer.

But none have actually arrived yet.

Now, the Corriere reports, the Nerazzurri are thinking of focusing their efforts on signing a player from one particular club – Atalanta.

Inter Milan Could Go For Either Toloi Or Demiral From Atalanta

On paper, signing a defender from Atalanta would make sense for Inter.

The Nerazzurri would be bringing in a player who has a strong familiarity with the back three system that Simone Inzaghi also uses.

Moreover, relations between the two Lombard clubs are typically good. Inter and Atalanta have completed a number of deals in the past.

According to the Corriere, therefore, the Nerazzurri are looking at the Gewiss Arena as they seek to sign one more defender.

La Dea captain Rafael Toloi has emerged as a serious target. The 32-year-old Italian international has a similar profile to Azpiliceuta, and a high level of comfort playing either at fullback or centre-back.

Meanwhile, Merih Demiral has been on Inter’s radar for some time now.

The Nerazzurri had already targeted the 25-year-old in the January window as a prospective Skriniar replacement. They could do the same this summer.
