Inter Milan are reportedly facing a real dilemma in their pursuit of Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
The Nerazzurri are desperate to sign a new custodian after losing the services of both Andre Onana and Samir Handanovic.
Sommer has emerged as the club’s preferred profile for the Number One spot. The management already has an agreement with the Switzerland international.
However, Bayern are still blocking the operation. The Germans bought Sommer to fill in for the injured Manuel Neuer last January.
With the 2014 World Cup hero still working on regaining his condition, the Bundesliga champions aren’t willing to deprive themselves of Sommer’s services.
As we reported earlier today, Inter are considering activating the goalkeeper’s release clause which is currently worth 6 million euros.
Nevertheless, Il Corriere dello Sport (via FcInterNews) is adding an interesting twist to this transfer saga.
The Roma-based newspaper claims that the value of the release clause will decrease to 3.5 million euros once Sommer plays his first official match of the season.
This could ensue on August 12 when Bayern Munich take on RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup. The Bavarians will then launch their Bundesliga campaign six days later in Bremen.
Inter Could Save 2.5 Million By Waiting Until Mid-August To Trigger The Release Clause Of Yann Sommer
Therefore, Inter could play the patience card which could allow them to save 2.5 million on Sommer’s transfer fee.
However, the downside would be leaving Simone Inzaghi’s squad short of options between the sticks.
Thus, the Inter Milan manager might end up resorting to young goalkeeper Filip Stankovic in the club’s first Serie A match of the season against Monza on August 19.
