Goalkeeper Yann Sommer is proud to have made the move to join Inter Milan from Bayern Munich ahead of this coming season.

Speaking to InterTV, via FCInterNews, the 34-year-old also stated that he made the decision to join the Nerazzurri because the style of play under Simone Inzaghi suits his preference to build up play from the back.

Inter have gotten their man. Earlier today, Sommer signed his contract and made his move from Bayern official.

It’s been something of a long chase, but the Swiss has arrived in the end.

Sommer is the man who Inter have settled on to replace Andre Onana following the Cameroonian’s big money move to Manchester United.

It won’t be an easy task to replace Onana. But Sommer is a player with extensive experience, both at club and international level.

And for his part, the former Borussia Monchengladbach is happy with his choice. Both for what representing the Inter shirt represents, and for how he thinks he can fit in with the club’s sporting project.

Yann Sommer: “Proud To Be At Inter Milan”

Sommer noted that “There are a lot of reasons why I’m here.”

“First of all, it’s a great club both domestically and in Europe, it has a great tradition.”

“Playing for a club as big as Inter is a new challenge for me and for my career,” he continued.

Sommer noted that “I can’t wait to play at the San Siro. To enjoy the fans, the atmosphere, and Milan. I’m happy to be here.”

Of his expectations, Sommer said that “I don’t have too many expectations. I haven’t really thought about it much, I just want to play, measure myself against other players, strikers, opponents.”

“To play for Inter, and to try and win something, play in different stadiums,” the 34-year-old summarized his ambitions.

“It’s all new for me,” Sommer added. “I’m really happy to be here and can’t wait to get started.”

Asked what his best feature is, the Swiss replied that “I’m a very explosive goalkeeper. I try to be courageous and help the team by making sure they can count on me, even playing with the ball at my feet.”

“I try to trust the team, stay calm and give a constant presence. These are my strong points.”

Of his ability playing with the ball at his feet, Sommer said that “That’s one of the reasons why I joined. because Inzaghi likes building up from the back. I’ve noticed that over the years.”

“And that’s also my style of play.”

“I like being an option for the team in possession,” Sommer added. “I like playing against opponents who put me under pressure.”

Of putting on the Inter shirt, the Swiss international said that “It means a lot.”

“It makes me proud because so many great goalkeepers have worn this shirt in the past, and I can’t wait to wear it as well, and play at the San Siro in front of the fans.”

“To the fans I say this: I’m happy and proud to be an Inter player. And I can’t wait to play in front of you at the San Siro and feel your magic.”
