Former Inter Milan and Bayern Munich midfielder Ciriaco Sforza is confident that Yann Sommer will be able to settle in and succeed at Inter.

Speaking to German-speaking Swiss news outlet Blick, via FCInterNews, the former midfielder called the 34-year-old keeper a “champion” and expressed his confident that the move will work out.

Yesterday, Sommer signed his contract and made his move from Bayern Munich official.

It’s been something of a long chase, but the Swiss has arrived in the end.

Sommer is the man who Inter have settled on to replace Andre Onana following the Cameroonian’s big money move to Manchester United.

It won’t be an easy task to replace Onana. But Sommer is a player with extensive experience, both at club and international level.

The 34-year-old will have fairly high expectations given what he has achieved in his career so far.

Last season’s Bundesliga title with Bayern capped off nearly a decade as one of the German top flight’s outstanding keepers. Moreover, Sommer has had some memorable heroics with the Swiss national side as well.

And there’s hardly any guarantee of success despite the 34-year-old’s experience.

Sommer is having to adjust to a new league for the first time in nearly ten years.

But for his part, Sforza has few doubts. He has also made the same switch from Bayern to Inter, and expects the goalkeeper to be a hit at his new club.

Sforza: Yann Sommer “A Champion” Who’ll Make An Impact At Inter

Sforza gave the view of the Inter new boy that “Yann has turned into a champion. Nobody can deny that.”

“Winning the title in Bavaria doesn’t matter,” he continued. “He has to leave so that he can continue to be the starter for the national team.”

Sforza argued that “He can be proud. At his age he’s experienced everything, but now he can once again discover a great club with a new language, a new language, a new mentality.”

“What more could you want?” he posed.
