Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu wants his team to hit the ground running when the season kicks off.

Last term, the Nerazzurri enjoyed great success in cup competitions. They lifted the Coppa Italia trophy and the Italian Super Cup for the second year in a row.

However, the club’s Serie A campaign was far from perfect. The Beneamata finished third, 18 points adrift from current reigning champions Napoli.

Simone Inzaghi’s men wasted points left and right in matches that they should have won, especially at the start of the season.

Therefore, Calhanoglu wants his club to avoid replicating the same mistakes.

The Turkish midfielder started in the club’s 4-3 victory over their hosts RB Salzburg in a friendly encounter on Wednesday evening.

The 29-year-old is seeing positive signs from the team in its pre-season preparations.

“The team did well. We still have ten days to prepare,” said the former AC Milan Star in his post-match interview with Inter TV via FcInterNews.

“We started well, but then the field became heavy due to the rain. So it wasn’t easy but in the end we won and that’s what matters the most.

“We certainly made mistakes that we need to analyze before the start of the campaign,” admitted Calhanoglu.

“We’ve worked hard during the pre-season tour in Japan as well. We had a good performance here in Salzburg.

“We still have ten days to work hard because we still need an extra edge. There’s always room for improvement.

“We want to start on the right foot in the league straight away. We want to avoid last season’s mistakes.

“We’ve definitely improved, in possession and in defense. Even if we’ve made a few mistakes.

“We’ve tried a few things. We need to improve on corner kicks. What matters the most is being ready in 10 days.”
