Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone expressed his desire to maintain Alvaro Morata amidst interest from Inter Milan.

The Nerazzurri are currently in the midst of a chaotic search for a new striker. The management is desperate to sign a new attacker to bolster Simone Inzaghi’s squad.

However, the club has been facing a plethora of hurdles on the market. They haven’t been able to strike a deal with any of their attacking transfer targets recently.

As we reported earlier today, Inter Milan manager Inzaghi is still urging the club to sign Morata, even though the management doesn’t share his desire for financial reasons.

For his part, Diego Simeone insists that Spanish striker remains an important figure in his squad.

Atletico Madrid Boss Diego Simeone Wants To Maintain The Services Of Inter Milan Transfer Target Alvaro Morata

The Argentine tactician says he’d like to keep the former Real Madrid and Juventus striker at Atletico, while also challenging hime to score more this term.

“I never reveal what I say to my players. I speak to them clearly and sincerely,” says Simone in his interview with Marca via FcInter1908.

“I made Morata understand that he’s an important player for us. We need him, as he is the only pure target man that we have.

“Do I want to keep Morata? Without a doubt. We talked to him before the match against Villarreal.

“We had a long discussion. We told him everything we thought, and that the time has come to improve his numbers in front of goal.

“He had scored many goals that were disallowed. For his age and the way he gets on with his peers, the time has come to get to 18 goals per season.”

As source reveals, Inter Milan isn’t the only Serie A club interested in Morata. The report also mentions Roma as another Italian suitor.

However, we shall see if the Colchoneros will be willing to part ways with the 30-year-old striker.
