Former Nerazzurri and Bologna striker Paolo Stringara feels that striker Marko Arnautovic is an “intelligent choice” for Inter Milan.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Sportiva, via FCInterNews, Stringara gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s decision to bring back the 34-year-old after more than a decade.

Arnautovic is not necessarily a player who too many expected to make the return to Inter this summer.

Whilst the Austrian has had an eye-catching couple of seasons with Bologna, he is also 34 years old.

However, the Nerazzurri have decided on signing the former West Ham United and Stoke City man.

Arnautovic seems to tick the boxes that Inter have been looking for in a striker this summer.

For one thing, the Rossoblu striker is certainly affordable. He arrives for a relatively modest fee compared to some other targets, and signs a short-term deal on low wages.

And on a technical level, Arnautovic is the the sort of player Inter were looking for to lead the line for next season.

The Austrian international is a tall, physical, and aggressive centre-forward. He adds the profile of an out-and-out Number Nine who can give the team a reference point in the final third for teammates to play off of.

Stringara Praises Inter Signing Of Marko Arnautovic

Stringara analyzed the signing, stating that “There are a lot of possible interpretations.”

“The first is that Inter don’t have much money to spend and so they’ve made do.”

“Right now, it’s surprising for a team to go for a player like him, having just reached the Champions League final, and with some of the names that had been circulating around,” Stringara continued.

“And yet they didn’t go for an obviously top player. Still, it could be an intelligent signing.”

The former midfielder suggested that “He has a strong character.”

“At Bologna he felt like a big fish in a small pond. At Inter, he’ll have to take on a different sort of role.”

“It’s a smart, if somewhat under-the-radar, piece of business,” Stringara added.
