Santos are ready to rival Inter Milan to try and sign former Arsenal, Barcelona, and Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez.

This according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, who report that the Brazilian giants are eyeing up the 34-year-old as a replacement for Roma target Marcos Leonardo in attack.

Sanchez is one name who has reportedly come onto Inter’s radar as a late-summer attacking signing.

The Chilean’s return to the Nerazzurri would come as something of a surprise. He only left the club twelve months ago.

However, with Sanchez having departed from Marseille at the end of his contract this summer, he could prove to be an opportunistic target for the Nerazzurri.

Reports suggest that Inter see Sanchez as a potential replacement for Joaquin Correa if the Argentine leaves.

So far this summer, the Nerazzurri have had no luck in offloading Correa.

However, there is still the possibility that Inter could find a new club for the 29-year-old. The Saudi Pro League in particular looks like a potential avenue for the former Lazio and Sevilla forward’s exit.

And if Correa were to leave, Inter would likely look to replace him with a player who has a similar profile.

The undeniably technically skilful Sanchez could be a natural target in this regard.

Sanchez Rival Inter Milan To Sign Alexis Sanchez

Inter could have some competition for the Chilean’s signature, however.

Brazilian giants Santos are looking for an attacking signing. This is because of the likely departure of striker Marcos Leonardo.

20-year-old Leonardo is a major target for Roma. The Giallorossi are aiming to wrap up a deal for the Brazilian before the summer transfer window shuts.

Therefore, Santos are mindful of the need to start searching for attackers soon.

And the veteran Sanchez could be the perfect opportunity for the Brazilians.

The 34-year-old’s availability on a free transfer would mean that it shouldn’t be too difficult for Santos to make a deal happen.

But only if he doesn’t join Inter first.
