Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta doesn’t hide the fact that Inter Milan are in talks with Bayern Munich for defender Benjamin Pavard.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri executive also stated that the 27-year-old wants to make the move.

Inter have made Pavard a major target in defense for the final days of the summer transfer window.

Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi has even admitted as much.

Inter have gone all summer without making a defensive signing the replace Milan Skriniar. Now they’re setting their sights on Pavard.

But agreeing a deal with Bayern for a transfer of the Frenchman won’t be easy by any means.

The Germans reportedly don’t want to lose hold of Pavard. At least not without first securing a replacement.

But one factor in Inter’s favour, according to Marotta, is that the player concerned wants to join.

Inter CEO Marotta: Benjamin Pavard Wants To Join Us

Of the situation with Pavard and Bayern, Marotta said that “What the player wants is important.”

“In this case he has expressed his desire to come to Inter, and he’s extremely keen,” the Inter CEO continued.

“However, Bayern are a rich team and they always have top players. So they’ll have to find another one before they can send Pavard to us.”

“There are economic factors, but also ones to do with having a strong squad,” Marotta noted.

“That’s what makes things difficult.”

“But the negotiations are still open,” the Nerazzurri executive made very clear.

And of the money that the Saudi Pro League is currently spending on players from Europe, Marotta said that “I’ll say that it’s something that’s been sudden for us as football directors as well.”

“In fact, we don’t know what the consequences will be,” he continued.

“The fact that €700 million worth of players have been taken from Europe is certainly significant.”

“But then we have to look at the fact that we’re currently cash-poor. Serie A needs a new television deal, and the entry of big Arab clubs can certainly cause problems for us.”
