Striker Marcus Thuram will make his first ever competitive start for Inter Milan in this evening’s Serie A opener against Monza.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, who report that the Frenchman will lead the line alongside Lautaro Martinez in this evening’s clash with the Brianzoli.

Thuram is one of Inter’s most high-profile signings of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old joined on a free transfer after his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach expired at the end of June.

After enjoying his best goalscoring season to date with the Foals, there will be pressure for Thuram to make an impact in a Nerazzurri. Not least because the Frenchman has increasingly become a regular for his national team, the World Cup runners-up.

Thuram will have the opportunity to do so right away.

Marcus Thuram To Start For Inter Milan In Serie A Opener Vs Monza

Thuram has already made a few appearances for Inter in friendly matches over the preseason.

The Frenchman disappointed some by not managing to find the back of the net in any of the friendlies that he has played in.

However, now the real action starts. Inter begin their Serie A campaign in earnest against Monza, a team who they only managed to take one point against all last season.

Thuram and Martinez will be the pair tasked with finding goals, something that Inter couldn’t do last time they met this opposition at the San Siro.

Meanwhile, Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa will begin the match on the bench.

In midfield, Sky anticipates that the regular first-choice trio from last season will start.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Nicolo Barella, and Hakan Calhanoglu should all play from the start. This will mean that there is only a place on the bench for summer signing Davide Frattesi.

And in defense, Sky reports, Stefan de Vrij will start due to an injury to Francesco Acerbi.

Flanking the Dutchman will be Matteo Darmian on the right and Alessandro Bastoni on the left.
