Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has won praise for his approach in the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 Serie A opening day win over Monza yesterday evening.

As Italian news outlet L’Interista notes, the player ratings for the match all praised the coach for masterminding the result.

Yesterday Inzaghi named his first competitive Inter starting eleven of the season.

The coach used new summer signings relatively sparingly, considering how much upheaval there had been over the course of the transfer window.

Marcus Thuram started in attack, whilst Yann Sommer started in goal. And in truth, Inzaghi had little choice but to throw these new arrivals into the mix.

But in midfield and defense, the coach went with players who he knows well and trusts. The same was true on both flanks, whilst new captain Lautaro Martinez led the line alongside Thuram which was little surprise to see.

Simone Inzaghi Praised For Getting It Right Vs Monza

Inzaghi put out a team that will have mostly looked familiar, and they rewarded him with a familiar-looking performance.

Stalwarts like Hakan Calhanoglu, Nicolo Barella, Henrikh Mkhitarytan, Stefan de Vrij, Federico Dimarco, and Alessandro Bastoni looked like a group with plenty of experience working together.

And this allowed Inter to look comfortable and in control for much of the match.

Monza are not a side who are easy to beat. Inter found this out the hard way last campaign, drawing and losing against the Brianzoli.

But Inzaghi’s men looked like they had figured it out.

And then, the coach made sure there was just the right amount of help from the new arrivals.

Aside from Thuram and Sommer starting, the coach largely restricted the new players to second half substitute appearances.

All of Juan Cuadrado, Carlos Augusto, Marko Arnautovic, Davide Frattesi, and Yann Bisseck got a run-out.

And all of the new boys looked comfortable finding their feet in Inzaghi’s team.

Inzaghi got the balance right as he looked to build continuity from last season and bridge the gap into the future. And all whilst taking three points to start the season.
