Former Man City and Roma striker Edin Dzeko decided to leave Inter Milan this summer in search of a new challenge at Fenerbahce.

Speaking to Turkish newspaper Milliyet, via FCInterNews, the Bosnian  gave his reasons for choosing the Istanbul giants this summer.

Dzeko left Inter after two years this summer.

Having previously spent six seasons with the Giallorossi, the former Wolfsburg and City striker made the switch to the San Siro in the summer of 2021.

In his time with Inter, Dzeko made 101 appearances in total. He scored 31 goals for the Nerazzurri, including in a Champions League semifinal first leg against AC Milan.

Dzeko’s final match for Inter was in the Champions League final against his old team Manchester City.

The veteran striker’s contract with the Nerazzurri ran out at the end of June.

Inter offered Dzeko an extension to his deal. And it had even looked at one point as though the 37-year-old would sign a new deal.

However, in the end Dzeko made a different decision, leaving the Nerazzurri after two seasons.

Edin Dzeko Explained Why He Left Inter For Fenerbahce

Dzeko decided to join Fenerbahce on a free transfer in the summer.

The Turkish side made their appeal to the Bosnian fairly early on. They sensed an opportunity to sign him, and the player evidently decided to try out the new adventure rather than extending his time at Inter.

Dzeko signed a two-year contract with Fenerbahce this summer.

The Bosnian explained that “A couple years ago Besiktas also wanted me.”

“But this summer I got the call from Fenerbahce. And I knew that they hadn’t won the title in nine seasons.”

“That’s unthinkable to me,” the former Inter striker said of Fenerbahce’s title drought.

“So that influenced my decision. Because I want to make people happy with my goals, on the pitch and also off it.”
