Inter Milan legend Beppe Bergomi feels that the signing of Marko Arnautovic is a very good piece of business for the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the former defender and captain gave his views on the Austrian.

This summer, Inter were linked with plenty of strikers.

First there was Romelu Lukaku, who the Nerazzurri looked determined to bring back. That move collapsed in dramatic fashion following a high-profile transfer soap opera.

Then, there were names like Gianluca Scamacca, Mehdi Taremi, Beto, and Folarin Balogun.

But it’s 34-year-old former Stoke City and West Ham United veteran Arnautovic who Inter settled on.

Not all Inter fans were happy with the Austrian’s arrival from Bologna.

A couple impressive seasons with the Rossoblu weren’t enough to convince many that Arnautovic is actually up to the level of the Nerazzurri, or that is arrival was anything other than the club looking for the cheapest option that they could possibly find.

But for his part, Bergomi is happy with the signing.

Inter Legend Beppe Bergomi A Fan Of Marko Arnautovic Signing

Of the signing of Arnautovic, Bergomi said “I don’t have any problems with it.”

“Just look at the two seasons he had at Bologna,” the former Nerazzurri captain added. “I certainly don’t remember him being a player like that.”

“And at the Euros, I remember he gave our defenders, Chiellini, Bonucci, Di Lorenzo, a very hard time,” Bergomi noted of Arnautovic’s performance for Austria against Italy.

“He’s a physical striker, and he also has technical ability,” he described the 34-year-old.

“It wasn’t easy to replace Lukaku and Dzeko.”

And Bergomi also had praise for Inter’s other big attacking signing this summer.

“Inzaghi was right to insist on Thuram,” he argued.

“He’s used to playing on the wing, even if last season he played as a centre-forward. Now he needs to keep getting playing time.”
