Marcus Thuram is the favourite to start for Inter Milan in Monday evening’s Serie A clash away to Cagliari.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Frenchman is ahead of Marko Arnautovic to start in attack alongside captain Lautaro Martinez.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will name his second starting eleven of the season on Monday.

In attack, the coach’s options are currently a little thin on the ground. Alexis Sanchez is officially an Inter player once again, but will play now part at the Sardegna Arena.

The Chilean has not quite joined in time to get up to speed for Monday’s match.

Therefore, there are three senior attackers for Inzaghi to choose from on Monday.

And according to the Corriere, the coach has a clear idea of who he’ll be going with.

Marcus Thuram To Start Alongside Lautaro Martinez For Inter Vs Cagliari

One player whose place in the team on Monday is not in a great deal of question is captain Martinez.

There will perhaps be a time later in the campaign when the Argentine will drop from the starting eleven in order to get a rest. However, that time is still some way away.

Martinez is Inter’s captain and driving force in attack. He demonstrated this with his opening day brace against Monza last weekend.

Therefore, the one real question concerns which forward will start alongside the 26-year-old.

And according to the Corriere, it will likely be the same player who started alongside Martinez against Monza.

Thuram was Martinez’s strike partner in his first ever Serie A match last weekend. The Frenchman did not score or assist a goal, although he showed plenty of flashes of his talent.

Meanwhile, ex-Bologna, West Ham United, and Stoke City striker Arnautovic came off the bench and assisted Martinez’s second goal in an impressive cameo.

According to the Corriere, it is something of a run-off between the two summer signings. But, in all likelihood, Thuram will be in the starting lineup as he had been against Monza.
