Italian journalist Paolo Condo finds it ironic that Roma will end up with Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku in attack as Inter Milan had wanted last summer.

Speaking on Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the journalist remarked on the strange transfer saga of the past twelve months.

Last summer, Inter had one attacking spot to fill.

That was the one which Alexis Sanchez (who is now back at Inter) vacated.

There were two names which were prominently linked with the Nerazzurri through much of the summer.

One was that of striker Lukaku. The Belgian had only left Inter in the previous summer transfer window, joining Chelsea in a massive money deal.

However, Lukaku pushed for an exit from Stamford Bridge, wanting to re-join the Nerazzurri.

Meanwhile, for weeks Inter seemed to be the team who were in position to wrap up a deal to sign forward Dybala on a free transfer after his contract with Juventus ran out.

Condo: Roma Ending Up With Dybala & Lukaku Instead Of Inter Ironic

It would perhaps be an oversimplification to say that Inter chose Lukaku over Dybala.

However, it always looked as though it would be difficult for the Nerazzurri to sign both. For that to happen, more forwards than Sanchez would have to leave.

In the end, Inter decided that the prospect of agreeing a loan with Chelsea for Lukaku was too good to pass up.

The Nerazzurri brought the Belgian back on a one-season paid loan deal. Meanwhile, Dybala lost patience with Inter, and accepted an offer to join Inter.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri pulled the plug on a move to sign Lukaku again from Chelsea this summer.

The 30-year-old’s antics negotiating with Juventus behind Inter’s back enraged the club directors, and he’s had to look for a different club.

After weeks in which Lukaku has been unable to find a club, the final twist in the story has led him to Roma. The Giallorossi are reportedly poised to bring the Belgian to the Italian capital.

With Dybala still at the Stadio Olimpico, the Giallorossi will have to forwards Inter had wanted to bring in last summer.

Condo noted that “It’s interesting that Roma will bring in Lukaku when they already have Dybala.”

“These are two players who Inter had tried to sign last summer.”

“But that’s how the transfer market goes some times.”
