Roma and Chelsea are now at the stage of ironing out the details on a loan move for striker Romelu Lukaku.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate that the Giallorossi want the Belgian on a paid loan for the season, with his parent club covering some of his wages.

Lukaku looks to have finally found a club for this season, after a summer of high drama and controversy.

A return to Inter fell through in acrimonious circumstances. Meanwhile, flirtations with Juventus and AC Milan seemingly went nowhere.

Lukaku was also a target for the free-spending Saudi Pro League.

And Chelsea always made clear that Saudi Pro League was their preferred destination for Lukaku. This would make it more straightforward for the Blues to recoup a decent chunk of what they paid for the 30-year-old in 2021.

However, Lukaku wants to stay in Europe.

And now it looks as though he’ll be back in Serie A after. But now with the Nerazzurri, the Rossoneri, or the Bianconeri.

Roma & Chelsea Negotiating Details Of Romelu Lukaku Transfer

Naturally, Chelsea’s priority has been to offload Lukaku once and for all this summer.

And the Londoners looked set to get their wish. Inter were ready to pay €35 million plus €5 million in add-ons, at least prior to angrily pulling the plug on deal in response to the Belgian’s antics.

But now Chelsea will have to settle for another loan move.

According to the Gazzetta, the Premier League giants are negotiating with Roma on the basis of a season-long paid loan move.

Chelsea are seeking similar terms to those that they agreed with Inter last summer.

The Blues want a loan fee of €8 million plus add-ons.

Meanwhile, Roma want Chelsea to cover part of Lukaku’s wages. The Belgian is asking for €11 million net per season to make the switch to the Italian capital.

This amounts to a whopping €16 million gross for the season – not exactly within Roma’s wage structure.

Therefore, the Giallorossi are aiming to pay a total of €7 million net of Lukaku’s wages. They want Chelsea to foot the bill for the rest.
