Former Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku is getting closer and closer to making the move to Roma from Chelsea.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Giallorossi and the Blues are getting closer and closer to an agreement on a loan fee for the 30-year-old.

Lukaku looks to have finally found a club for this season, after a summer of high drama and controversy.

A return to Inter fell through in acrimonious circumstances. Meanwhile, flirtations with Juventus and AC Milan seemingly went nowhere.

Lukaku was also a target for the free-spending Saudi Pro League.

And Chelsea always made clear that Saudi Pro League was their preferred destination for Lukaku. This would make it more straightforward for the Blues to recoup a decent chunk of what they paid for the 30-year-old in 2021.

However, Lukaku wants to stay in Europe.

And now it looks as though he’ll be back in Serie A after. But now with the Nerazzurri, the Rossoneri, or the Bianconeri.

Roma & Chelsea Negotiating Details Of Romelu Lukaku Transfer

Naturally, Chelsea’s priority has been to offload Lukaku once and for all this summer.

And the Londoners looked set to get their wish. Inter were ready to pay €35 million plus €5 million in add-ons, at least prior to angrily pulling the plug on deal in response to the Belgian’s antics.

But now Chelsea will have to settle for another loan move.

According to the Blues and Roma made significant progress in loan talks yesterday.

The main thing that they still need to do is agree on a loan fee. According to the Gazzetta, there are about €3 million between Chelsea’s demands and Roma’s offer.

However, the sense is that the two clubs can work this out.

Meanwhile, Lukaku is ready to take a significant wage reduction to move to the Stadio Olimpico. He will reportedly earn around €7.5 million net for the season.
