Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu admits that the team wanted to avoid the costly mistakes from last season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after this evening’s Serie A win over Cagliari, via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old stressed that the Nerazzurri want to make sure they can stay in consistent form in the league this campaign.

This evening, Inter won their second match of the Serie A season.

They did so by the same scoreline that they did so against Monza in their season opener – 2-0.

It was not an easy match, as Cagliari looked to take the game to Inter early on, pressing high. But the Nerazzurri wrestled control of the match, with two first-half goals rewarding a strong performance.

In the second half as well, the Rossoblu threatened the Nerazurri with some incisive moves and pace in behind, especially from winger Zito Luvumbu.

However, Inter held out. The Nerazzurri’s defense did not crack for the second clean sheet of the season.

Hakan Calhanoglu Urges Inter Milan To Find Consistency This Season

These are exactly the kinds of matches that Inter would frequently slip up in last season.

Inter suffered shock defeats at the hands of Udinese, Empoli, Spezia, and Monza.

Therefore, for the team to take six points right out of the gate looks like a good sign for how the Nerazzurri will approach matches against the “smaller” teams in the Italian top flight.

There are still, it must be said, many more to go. But Calhanoglu feels that the team know exactly what they have to do.

“As I already said months ago, we don’t want to repeat the same mistakes as last season,” the Turk said.

“These matches are important for us, we can’t just drop points in them.”

Calhanoglu said that “We were focused right away, we prepared well and we showed it.”

Calhanoglu also noted that “I’m happy with the position that I’m playing. I also help out in front of the defense.”
