Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez will be aiming to extend his outstanding record in front of goal against Cagliari this evening.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, note that the Argentine has scored eight goals in eight matches against the Sardinians.

Inter’s new captain Martinez underlined his importance to his team in the very first match of the season. The Argentine scored both the Nerazzurri’s goals in the Nerazzurri’s opening day win 2-0 win over Monza.

Meanwhile, both Marcus Thuram and Marko Arnautovic showed some positive signs.

The latter assisted Martinez for Inter’s second goal. This could be an early indication that the two strikers can form a real partnership.

However, one thing that neither Thuram nor Arnautovic did was get on the scoresheet.

The match against Monza was an early sign that Martinez will be the player to provide a big share of Inter’s goals again.

And against Cagliari, the 26-year-old can build further momentum.

Lautaro Martinez Hoping To Keep Stellar Record Vs Cagliari Going

As the Corriere note, Martinez has played eight matches against Rossoblu. And whilst he has not scored in all of them, he still has a record of a goal per match against them.

This is because Martinez bagged a brace in each meeting against Cagliari in the 2021-22 season.

The Argentine has also gotten on the scoresheet eight times against city rivals AC Milan.

This propensity to score in derby matches has certainly endeared Martinez to the Inter faithful.

But Martinez has played in fourteen matches against the Rossoneri. He is hardly scoring at a rate of once per match against Inter’s city rivals.

In the form of Cagliari, the Argentine meets an opponent that he has always seemed to find his shooting boots against.

Martinez, and Inter, will be hoping that trend continues this evening.
