Inter Milan would reportedly opt to sign Tanguy Ndombele from Tottenham Hotspur rather than Sassuolo’s Maxime Lopez.

After wrapping up the transfer of Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich, the Nerazzurri are looking to round off what was an exhausting transfer session with one more signing.

The final piece of the jigsaw would be a midfielder who arrives to bolster Simone Inzaghi’s middle of the park.

In the last few days, Lopez and Ndombele have emerged as the most likely contenders for the spot.

But according to Sport Mediaset via FcInterNews, Inter directors prefer the Spurs outcast over the Sassuolo Regista.

As the source explains, the prospect of signing Lopez hasn’t truly enticed the club’s directors.

Perhaps the 25-year-old didn’t help his case by earning a direct red card over the weekend for dissent. His unceremonious dismissal surely complicates matters for Sassuolo who ended up losing 0-2 to defending champions Napoli away from home.

For his part, Ndombele has rejected the opportunity to sign for Genoa, holding out for a more lucrative destination.

The 26-year-old plied his trade at Napoli last season but returned to Tottenham following the expiry of his loan stint.

The Frenchman is currently out of the Spurs’ technical project. So he’s looking to finalize a transfer before the European transfer market closes tomorrow night.

Inter Milan Are More Inclined Towards Signing Tanguy Ndombele Rather Than Maxime Lopez

Moreover, the arrival of Ndombele could see Kristjan Asllani remaining at Inter for next season.

The young Albanian would most likely leave if another deep-lying midfielder like Lopez would arrive.

But by signing a box-to-box midfielder like Ndombele, Asllani would remain at the club, acting as a backup for Hakan Calhanoglu.

Nevertheless, the 21-year-old is seeking more playing time this season after serving as a benchwarmer last term. The source adds that Empoli would be happy to welcome him back to the club.
