Italian journalist Luca Marchetti feels that the summer transfer window Inter Milan had has been characterized by reacting well to setbacks.
Speaking on Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, Marchetti gave his thoughts on Inter’s summer as a whole.
It would be fair to say that every team will have to suffer some disappointments in the transfer market.
However, Inter had more than their share this summer.
First, there was the high-profile soap opera with striker Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian had looked as though it would only be a matter of time before he would make the move to Inter on a permanent basis.
However, the revelation that Lukaku had been negotiating with Juventus changed all that.
Then, there was the equally dramatic collapse of midfielder Lazar Samardzic’s move to Inter.
The Nerazzurri had looked as though they had completely wrapped up the Serb’s deal – he even underwent medicals.
But then, at the eleventh hour, a convoluted situation involving the player’s agents and new financial demands torpedoed his move.
Marchetti Feels Inter Milan Have “Reacted Well” In Summer Transfer Window
Despite all the difficulties the Nerazzurri have faced this summer, they have not let them stop them from making signings.
A whopping twelve players have arrived at the club.
There have been some transfer sagas that rumbled on with significant uncertainty. Yann Sommer and Benjamin Pavard both joined from Bayern Munich after the Nerazzurri had waited for the ok from the Bavarians.
But, by hook or by crook, Inter got their transfer business done.
From the point of view of Marchetti, this was the overarching theme of Inter’s entire summer.
“If I had to define Inter’s transfer window in a single word, I’d say they reacted,” he said. “They reacted well.”
“There were some setbacks in certain negotiations,” he continued.
“I’m thinking in particular of Lukaku, Scamacca, and Samardzic.”
“And it has to be said, it’s not always the club’;s fault if a deal doesn’t go through,” Marchetti also noted.
