Retired Italian striker Antonio Cassano believes Inter Milan have a duty to win the Scudetto this season after missing out on the last two.

The Nerazzurri last lifted the league title under the guidance of Antonio Conte in the 2020/21 campaign.

The former Juventus captain left straight afterwards. The club replaced him with Simone Inzaghi.

The incumbent Inter manager proved to be a cup expert, winning two Coppa Italia trophies and as as many Italian Super Cups. But the Scudetto eluded him over the last two campaigns.

For his part, Cassano identifies Inter as the favorites to clinch the league title. He believes the club can’t have any more alibis this time around.

“The club’s good start doesn’t surprise me. Inter plays solid and cynical football. They also don’t risk much at the back,” said the former Nerazzurri striker in his appearance on Bobo TV via FcInterNews.

“I’m angry because two league titles have been thrown down the toilet.  Inter were the strongest team in the last two seasons.

“Today they are the absolute number one favorite in terms of status. They must win the title without any ifs and buts.

“However, this year they’re weaker than the last two years having lost Perisic, Brozovic, Handanovic, Onana and others.

“Inzaghi is not offering anything extra. But he gave even less in the past. After the international break comes the derby. We’ll see what happens.”

Cassano also named a host of left-backs whom he considers stronger than Inter’s Federico Dimarco.

“I want to see Dimarco play like he does in Serie A on an international level in the next two or three years.

“Today, I don’t consider him among the best. I place Lucas Hernandez,  Theo, Alphonso Davies and Alejandro Balde ahead of him, just to name a few.”
