France national team coach Didier Deschamps feels that Benmjamin Pavard can succeed playing on the right for Inter Milan.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of matches against Ireland and Germany, as reported by FCInterNews, the Les Bleus coach gave his thoughts on the 27-year-old’s transfer to the Nerazzurri this summer.

Pavard’s arrival shortly before deadline day arguably marks Inter’s most high-profile transfer of the entire summer window.

The Frenchman brings with him a significant reputations and experience. He has won the Bundesliga on four occasions as well as the Champions League with Bayern Munich.

And Pavard was also part of the French national team squad at each of the past two World Cups. He also played for Les Bleus at the Euros.

Pavard was a key cog in the France team that won the World Cup in 2018.

The 27-year-old has largely played on the right side of defense for his country.

Meanwhile, at Bayern Pavard has played both on the right, and in the centre of defense.

But the player’s tactical preference for playing as a centre-back was reportedly a key factor in his desire to join Inter.

Pavard has made clear that he broadly prefers playing as a centre-back over playing at fullback.

In Bavaria, there was never a guarantee that the Frenchman could play in his desired role.

Meanwhile, at Inter Pavard will arguably find a setup that suits him absolutely ideally.

The 27-year-old’s pace and ability to defend in wide areas will aid him in playing on the right of the Nerazzurri’s back three.

But all in all, Pavard will certainly play as an out-and-out defender. He will not be expected to play as an attacking fullback.

“At Bayern he played in a number of roles,” Deschamps noted.

“At Inter I think he can play on the right,” he continued.

“He knows what I expect from him. I think things can go well for him.”
