Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi and AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli have endured almost similar fates over the past year, a report observes.

Following the international break, the two men will meet on the sidelines for a much-anticipated Derby della Madonnina.

The two clubs currently share the top spot. They each won the first three fixtures of the Serie A campaign, thus enjoying a perfect record.

But at least one of them will drop points for the first time this term when they clash heads at the San Siro on Saturday, September 16.

According to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, Inzaghi and Pioli share more than just the point tally.

As the source explains, both managers were facing the sack last season.

For Pioli, he endured a rough campaign on the domestic level. Milan were swiftly eliminated from the Coppa Italia at the hands of Torino. They also suffered a devastating 0-3 defeat at the hands of Inter in the Italian Super Cup.

The Rossoneri would have missed out on a Top Four finish if it weren’t for Juve’s 10-point deduction.

Nevertheless, the club’s hierarchy decided to place its trust in Pioli. Instead, it was technical director and club legend Paolo Maldini who was sent packing along with his collaborator Ricky Massara.

Similar to Pioli, Inzaghi was also at risk of losing his job at Inter Milan. The 47-year-old lost 12 matches in Serie A. However, a late charge rescued a Champions League spot. Moreover, the manager’s cup exploits may have salvaged his stint.

At the moment, Inzaghi finds himself in a much more secure spot at Appiano Gentile. In fact, the tactician has just signed a contract renewal that extends his stay at the club until 2025.
