Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram will be hoping to depose AC Milan veteran Olivier Giroud and earn a starting spot with France
This will be an interesting duel to keep an eye on ahead of the Derby della Madonnina, explains La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.
The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri are leading the Serie A standings after the first three rounds of the season.
Both giants enjoyed perfect starts, winning their first trio of fixtures in generally convincing fashion. This sets up an intriguing early Derby clash right after the international break.
But in the meantime, the French camp could be witnessing an interesting pre-Derby duel between Giroud and Thuram.
The Milan veteran has been a favorite of Didier Deschamps for years now. The 36-year-old is the all-time leading goalscorer for Les Bleus with 54 international goals.
So as the source explains, Giroud remains the favorite to maintain his spot in the coach’s starting XI. The former Chelsea man is enjoying a fine start to the Serie A campaign, scoring four goals in three matches.

Nevertheless, Thuram has also managed to earn the trust of his national team coach in recent years.
The Inter striker is 11 years younger than his compatriot and he’ll be hoping that his time comes sooner rather than later.
The 25-year-old joined the Nerazzurri last summer as a free agent after seeing out his contract with Borussia Monchengladbach.
He has already established himself as a starter in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 formation, spearheading the lineup alongside Lautaro Martinez.
The French camp also includes another two Milan stars in the shape of Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan, plus Inter newcomer Benjamin Pavard.
France will host the Republic of Ireland in Paris this Thursday for a Euro 2024 qualifier before traveling to Dortmund for a prestigious friendly against Germany next Tuesday.
