Inter Milan have shown their faith in Simone Inzaghi with a contract extension, and now are expecting the coach to repay it with a Serie A title.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews.

Yesterday, Inter made it official. Inzaghi is now under contract until the end of June 2025.

This looked improbable – almost impossible – just a few short months ago.

Towards the end of last season, Inter’s form seemed to be careening into an irreversible tailspin. Few backed Inzaghi to steer the Nerazzurri back on course, with top four in the Serie A table seemingly at risk.

But Inter’s directors did. They kept the 47-year-old former Lazio coach in post, at least until the end of the season.

And Inzaghi repaid the club directors’ faith in him.

In the end, Inter’s qualification for the Champions League via a third place finish was comfortable and emphatic.

And the Nerazzurri’s victory in the Coppa Italia and reaching the Champions League final were vindication of Inzaghi’s reputation as a cup competition specialist.

Inter Milan Show Faith In Simone Inzaghi – Now Expecting The Serie A Title

Inter are obviously more than happy for Inzaghi to sweep the domestic cup competitions for another season.

And the team’s surprise run in the Champions League is certainly another feather in his cap.

Those cup successes along with a top four finish were enough to repay Inter’s faith in the spring.

But now, the club’s expectations are clear. This has to be the season where Inzaghi finally comes good in the league title race.

In Inzaghi’s first season at Inter, the coach had the team seemingly in title-winning form.

Then a spring dip in form saw the Neazzurri allow city rivals AC Milan back into the race. The Rossoneri narrowly prevailed in a race that went down to the final day of the season.

And last season the margin of victory for Napoli was anything but narrow.

The Partenopei were virtually champions-elect for months as Inter – along with the other top sides in Serie A – all but capitulated through a series of stumbles.

This time around, things have to be different.

Inzaghi has already shown early on this season that Inter can show title-worthy form. The Nerazzurri have won three from three in the league so far, keeping three clean sheets and thrashing Fiorentina to sign off for the international break.

That is the conditions under which Inter have extended their coach’s contract.

This is what the club expect from now on. They want Inzaghi to finally bring Inter the Serie A title.
