Former Lazio director Igli Tare feels that few coaches would have survived last season at Inter Milan as Simone Inzaghi did.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInter1908, the former Biancocelesti executive noted the pressure that the coach had been under before righting the ship and saving his job.

Last season, Inzaghi had seemingly looked as though he had one foot out the door at Inter.

A dreadful run of form in March and April saw the Nerazzurri drop out of the top four of the Serie A table.

This was plainly not acceptable. The quality of the squad and the sense of what they were capable of meant that Champions League football was certainly the bare minimum.

However, Inzaghi held on, and the club gave the coach the chance to prove himself in the run-in of the campaign.

In the end, Inter had a very successful end to the season.

The Nerazzurri won the Coppa Italia, finished third in the table in the league, and reached the Champions League final.

This saw Inzaghi save his job, and even earn a contract at Inter until the end of June 2025.

Igli Tare: Simone Inzaghi Had His Back To The Wall At Inter Milan

Former Lazio Sporting Directore Tare had worked with Inzaghi for several seasons in the Italian capital.

Inzaghi had been Biancocelesti coach for more than five seasons before joining Inter.

He argued that “Last season, Inzaghi had his back to the wall at Inter.”

“Few coaches would have survived from the position that he was in,” the executive continued.

As for Inzaghi’s secret, Tare named “Empathy, knowing how to create a strong bond with the players.”

“He gains trust with them,” he said of the coach.

Comparing Inzaghi to AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli, Tare said “Maybe he’s a bit more like a player out of the two.”

“He tends to be a friend to the players, even if he knows when the keep his distance.”

Tactically speaking, Tare said that Inzaghi “Started with the same 3-5-2 formation that he’s been using over the years.”
