Two Inter Milan players have made it onto the thirty-player shortlist for the FIFA Ballon D’Or.

Both Nerazzurri striker Lautaro Martinez and midfielder Nicolo Barella appear on the shortlist, whilst former Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana has also made the cut.

Yesterday FIFA announced the thirty-man shortlist for Ballon D’Or voting.

Unsurprisingly, Inter Milan players are on the list. This comes after a season in which, despite a disappointing domestic campaign, the Nerazzurri reached the Champions League final.

Inter Milan Duo Lautaro Martinez & Nicolo Barella On FIFA Ballon D’Or Shortlist

The first Inter player to feature is striker Lautaro Martinez.

It’s been another memorable year of growth for the Argentine.

Martinez won the World Cup with Argentina during the voting period.

On the one hand, it was a disappointing tournament on a personal level for Martinez. The Nerazzurri man did not manage to score or assist a goal in Qatar, as he lost his place in the Albiceleste’s starting eleven.

On the other hand, winning the World Cup seemed to spur something in Martinez at club level.

The 26-year-old finished last season as Inter’s top scorer for the second campaign in a row. Among his goals were several memorable strikes against AC Milan.

This summer, Martinez inherited the captain’s armband at Inter. This is a reflection of the Argentine’s centrality to the team both on and off the pitch.

The second Inter player to feature on the Ballon D’Or shortlist is midfielder Nicolo Barella.

The Italian international is arguably the Nerazzurri’s outstanding all-around player. All season long, there was little that the 26-year-old former Cagliari man couldn’t do in the midfield battle, and he was a key figure in the team’s run to the Champions League final.

Barella features on the shortlist despite the fact that Italy didn’t play at the World Cup.

Meanwhile, former Inter keeper Andre Onana is also on the shortlist.

The Cameroonian is now a Manchester United player, having made the big money move to Old Trafford during the summer.

However, there is little doubt that Onana earned his place on the list with his exploits in an Inter shirt.

Onana’s saves were vital to Inter’s impressive run in the Champions League knockouts.
