Former Roma defender Vincent Candela believes that Inter Milan will once again fall short in the Serie A title race.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster TV Play, via FCInterNews, the Frenchman predicted that either AC Milan or Juventus will finish the season top of the pile in the Italian top flight rather than the Nerazzurri.
Inter have not made any secret of the fact that the Serie A title is their goal for this season.
The last time the Nerazzurri got their hands on the Scudetto was in the 2020-21 season.
And in the subsequent season, they got tantalizingly close. Inter were top of the table in January, with a commanding lead no less.
But over the course of a major wobble in form during the spring, that advantage eroded.
Inter’s city rivals AC Milan got in ahead of them, pipping the Nerazzurri to the title on the final day of the season.
Ex Roma Defender Candela: Inter Milan Will Slip Up In Serie A Title Race Again
If Inter had hoped to bounce back from that final-day heartbreak last season, then they certainly did not meet that objective.
The Nerazzurri truthfully never looked close to Napoli. Nor did any other side in Serie A.
The Partenopei marched to the Scudetto, virtually wrapping it up with several months left to go in the campaign.
And Inter, despite showing title-winning form here and there, and in spite of a memorable European campaign that saw them reach the Champions League final, once again fell short. Miles short this time.
This season once again, there is a sense that Inter are a team capable of winning the title.
And the Nerazzurri’s early season form has certainly marked them out among the favourites.
But in the view of former Giallorossi defender Candela, Inter will once again not manage to get their hands on the title.
“I don’t see Napoli as favourites for the title,” the former defender said.
“They’ve lost a lot with Spalletti’s departure, and I could see them falling off a lot.”
He continued that “If Inter haven’t won it in either of the last two seasons, they won’t do so this season either.”
“I see it being one of Milan or Juve,” Candela predicted.
“And then if it could be my old Roma, I’d like that a lot of course.”
