Former Inter Milan captain Samir Handanovic will remain at the club after recently announcing his retirement.

The goalkeeper joined the Nerazzurri in 2012 as a replacement for Julio Cesar. The former Udinese goalkeeper spent eleven years at Appiano Gentile.

Last season, the skipper lost his starting berth to Andre Onana. At the end of the season, his contract with the club expired.

While some expected him to pursue a late-career adventure, Handanovic has recently announced his retirement from the sport.

But despite hanging his boots, this won’t be the end of the Slovenian’s time at Inter.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, Handanovic will sign a two-year contract with the club.

However, his new role with the Nerazzurri is yet to be defined. As the source explains, the retired custodian is looking to obtain a coaching license.

So in the meantime, he could collaborate with the club’s scouting staff, collecting some valuable experience in the process.

The 39-year-old started his playing days at Domzale in his native country of Slovenia. However, he spent the vast majority of his career in Italy.

He signed for Udinese in 2004 and has been a mainstay in the Italian Peninsula ever since. He also represented the likes of Rimini, Treviso and Lazio on loan from the Zebrette.
