Former Inter Milan coach Andrea Stramaccioni feels that his old club has an edge over AC Milan in the upcoming Derby, even though the Rossoneri have been impressive as well.

The 47-year-old took charge of the Nerazzurri in March 2012. The club promoted him from the Primavera squad to the first team after sacking Claudio Ranieri. He remained at the helm until May 2013.

The Italian offered his take on Saturday’s much-anticipated Derby della Madonnina.

Stramaccioni explains how a Derby victory can serve as a major boost for the club’s campaign while a defeat would be a cruel blow.

“The Derbies in Milan can give you a boost or a blow”, said the former Inter manager in an interview with Il Mattino via FcInterNews.

“But now we have two expert coaches in Stefano Pioli and Simone Inzaghi. I don’t think this Derby can kill the ambition of either man. However, it will be important for both of them to win.”

Moreover, the former Udinese and Panathinaikos coach considers Inter as the stronger side overall. However, he admits that Milan’s swift progress has caught him by surprise

“Between the two teams, Inter still has something extra,” analyzes Stramaccioni.

“But at the start of the season, Milan have surprised me. It’s not easy to change so many starters in a key area like the midfield and immediately have such harmonious fluidity of play.

“However, the only team that can really overtake Napoli based on what they have shown so far is Inter.

“They now have a new way of approaching the match. It’s the complete opposite of last season when they dropped so many easy points.

“In my opinion, they have the potential to clinch the Scudetto if they continue to work in the right way.”
