Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels that the team have gotten off to a great start this season, but that it’s still early.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, the coach reacted to the Nerazzurri’s 5-1 victory over AC Milan in the derby.
Inter not only kept their perfect start to the season going against Milan this evening
The Nerazzurri did so in emphatic style, putting five goals past their city rivals.
Even though Inter had won the past four derby matches going into this evening, a victory seemed anything but a foregone conclusion. The Rossoneri have also been in outstanding form at the start of this campaign.
But Inter looked far and away the more ruthless team.
Now, Inter have already collected twelve points out of a possible twelve.
They sit two points clear of Juventus in second spot, whilst Napoli are three behind them but with a game in hand against Genoa this evening.
Inter Coach Simone Inzaghi: Great Start, But A Long Way To Go
Inzaghi noted that “We’ve had an ideal start to the season. A great derby, we always stayed focused, kept the right distances between the lines.”
“We scored goals at the right moments,” the coach continued.
“And the substitutes did very well right in the moment after we had conceded the goal for 2-1,” he noted.
“Congratulations to the guys, we’re very satisfied but this is only the start.”
Inzaghi continued that “We know how much the whole Inter family cares about this derby.”
“Now we have a series of matches played close together on the way, and we’ll prepare for them,” he noted.
Of Inter’s match-winner Mkhitaryan, Inzaghi noted that “We all know who Mkhi is. I don’t bother listening to or reading much.”
“I just watch my players, what they do in training,” he noted.
“I was a bit worried because with the first three matches, we had a whole week to prepare. And this time around, some of my players had been away with their national teams.”
“The South American internationals only returned 24 hours ago,” Inzaghi continued.
“But they showed that they know how to play in these matches.”
Inter Milan Already Targeted Marcus Thuram In January
Inzaghi also gave his thoughts on striker Marcus Thuram, who scored a brilliant long-range goal in his first ever Milan derby.
“Marotta and Ausilio already wanted to sign Thuram in January,” he noted.
“And I had also spoken with Deschamps, who spoke highly of him. A player with great quality and a guy who we all immediately fell in love with.”
Inzaghi called Thuram a “Great signing. Well done by the club, who had already been following him for twelve months.”
“We changed twelve players in the summer, which is no small amount. Only Sommer and Thuram are starting right away, but there are a lot of top players who have arrived and the club did well.”
