Five months appears to have made all the difference for coach Simone Inzaghi at Inter Milan.

Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it highlight how the coach has virtually had an entire lifetime since April, going from being on the verge of a sacking to masterminding the fifth derby win against AC Milan of the calendar year.

In April of this year, Inter’s form looked to be virtually untenable.

A disastrous run of five matches in which the Nerazzurri drew won match and lost four had meant that the team were out of the top four spots in the Serie A table. This was anything but the form that was expected of Inzaghi.

Perhaps inevitably, this led to rumours that the coach could be out the door.

If Inzaghi wasn’t going to be given the sack then, it would seemingly come during the summer at the latest.

But Inter continued to give their coach the chance to prove himself. And over the final weeks of last season, he righted the ship.

Inter went on their strongest run of the entire season in Serie A to get themselves back into the top four.

And then by winning the Coppa Italia and reaching the Champions League final, Inzaghi gave himself further credibility at Inter. Not only did the former Lazio coach survive until the end of the season, he ended up earning a contract extension.

Five Months For Simone Inzaghi At Inter Milan Culminate In Derby Triumph

Inter’s start to this season is like night and day compared to the team’s woeful run going into last April.

It also has Inzaghi’s team looking like a different side compared to the one that lost five of their first eight matches last campaign.

Inter have won each of their first four matches in Serie A this season. That hadn’t happened since the 2019-20 season under Antonio Conte.

And the Nerazzurri have done so in emphatic style.

Prior to the international break, Inter had scored eight goals and conceded none.

Against Milan in yesterday evening’s derby, the Nerazzurri did concede their first goal of the season.

But that was virtually the only dark spot on what was otherwise a perfect evening for Inter and for Inzaghi.

The Nerazzurri put five past their city rivals. This number also reflects the fact that yesterday was the fifth time that Inter have beaten the Rossoneri in the calendar year 2023.

Five months after looking close to the edge, Inzaghi now looks to be more in control than ever.
